The Program

Buckingham Friends School offers:

The lower school, grades K-2, is located in a modern facility surrounded by a wooded Playground, which is also used as an outdoor classroom. The School provides a nurturing atmosphere where children can be individuals within the group. Social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth are as important as academic achievement.

In the middle school, grades 3-5, teachers continue to focus on individual needs and growth with emphasis on higher level of academic reasoning. The Program builds upon the foundations established in the early years, helping students to discover underlying structures and principles.

Students in the upper school, grades 6-8, begin to make the transition from elementary to secondary school. The program becomes increasingly departmentalized and challenging, advanced skill development is emphasized, and increased responsibility and independence are encouraged.

The middle and upper schools are housed in the original schoolhouse, which has been both preserved and expanded.

All students participate in physical education. The School's program includes skill building, competative and cooperative activities and sportsmanship. Interscholastic teams participate in soccer, field hockey, basketball and lacrosse.

In addition to basic core classes, required courses include computer literacy, religion and foreign languages. French is taught in all grades beginning in kindergarten, and students may choose to begin instruction in Spanish in the sixth grade. Creative expression is developed and encouraged in regular music, art, drama and woodshop classes. Students further expand their horizons through weekly elective periods.

Graduates of Buckingham Friends School attend a variety of public and independent boarding and day schools, including Princeton area schools' George School in Newtown, the Solebury School and Germantown Academy,to name a few.

The importance of community is exemplified in:

The entire School gathers together for weekly assemblies and Meeting for Worship. All-school programs and events include the Arts Festival, International Earth Day Summits, Track and Field Day, Grandparents' Day, All School Play, community service projects and the Joint Environmental Mission (JEM) program. School families play an integral part in the planning and participation of most School functions. Parental involvement enhances and enriches the school program and community, and provides an important communication network.

The After School Program is offered every school day, as well as on professional and conference days. Busing is provided to most Pennsylvania students by the school district in which they live.
