Middle School (3-5)

The Middle School program builds upon foundations established in the early years, helping children discover underlying structures and principles while emphasizing higher levels of academic reasoning. Each year, Middle School students extend their work in the core areas of language arts, math, social studies, and science. They continue to develop skills and interests in special areas of French, Spanish, art, music, shop, physical education and human development, and begin to study religion and health. Experience with technology increases with the use of Chromebooks, laptops, and interactive whiteboards. 

Students in the middle years begin to assume more responsibility and independence for their learning. They acquire leadership skills by serving as representatives to various student committees, such as Assembly, Meeting for Worship, JEM (Joint Environmental Mission) and Outreach. They continue to build self-confidence and presentation skills in a variety of ways, including by participating in the yearly class play. Field trips, another highlight of these years, connect with academic studies and provide opportunities for experiential learning off campus. Fifth grade culminates with a year-end overnight trip to the Pocono Environmental Education Center.
