Over the summer, BFS teachers and administrators worked to develop a formal advisory program for the Upper School. Building on the strengths of the long-established mindfulness and developmental workshop lessons, as well as past homeroom activities, and with consideration of the calendar priorities throughout the year, the committee worked to design a formal advisory program with intentional lessons about community, identity, reputation, social-emotional awareness, integrity, conflict resolution, respect, study skills, and executive function skills in the framework of the BFS mission and values.

On Friday, September 30, 2022, we gathered as a community – students, faculty, staff, families, trustees, members of Buckingham Friends Meeting, former students and parents, and neighbors and elected officials – to break ground and set the stage for a series of thoughtful, transformative changes to our campus that will allow us to continue to carry out our mission to “honor the Light within each person, inspire scholarship and spiritual community, and instill the value of caring for others and our world.”

I cannot recall how many times I have referenced and/or recommended Dr. Michael Thompson’s book, Homesick and Happy: How Time Away from Parents Can Help a Child Grow since it was published in 2012. While a majority of the book focuses on the value of summer camp experiences, chapter one presents a series of things that Dr. Thompson believes we cannot provide for our children. I believe this list is worth considering in the broader context of parenting and as we move forward during the school year together.

The township board of supervisors at its July 27 meeting unanimously granted preliminary and final land development approval for a multi-million dollar project at Buckingham Friends School. Work will include a new gymnasium to replace the existing structure built in 1952, a new science center, and renovation of the main building.

The sun was shining, the stage was set, and the feeling of excitement pulsated through the sylvan campus on Thursday, June 9, 2022, as the Buckingham Friends School community gathered on the Upper Field to conclude the 227th school year and celebrate the Class of 2022!

Students, teachers, and families gathered on a crystal clear day at the end of the school year to watch as the 8th Grader's high-altitude weather balloon soared into the skies.  The experiment left the ozone layer and entered the stratosphere with a top altitude of 101,629 feet before the balloon burst and coasted back towards Earth, gathering data on atmospheric pressure, temperature, velocity, altitude, imagery, and radiation levels along the way.

5th - 8th Grade French students participated in Le Grand Concours, a National French Contest sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French

At BFS, while we engage students in a comprehensive educational experience designed to develop their minds, whole selves, and qualities of personhood, one overarching principle is not to teach them “what to think” but rather “how to think.”

As part of 4th Grade's year-long service-learning project, the students raised over $1,000 for the Bucks County SPCA.
